Suicidal Ideations or Attempts

This is not a psychiatry-based program. Any patients with history of severe depression, suicidal attempts and/or ideations, will be required to be followed by a psychiatrist. Failure to maintain psychiatric care will result in dismissal from the program. Patients with such medical conditions may be asked to have their pain medications prescribed by their psychiatrist. We can assist the psychiatrist with recommendations, but we will not take the responsibility of providing the patients with potentially lethal medications. Any patients having attempted suicide during the course of our pain program will immediately have all medications stopped, and their care transferred to a psychiatry-base program (i.e.: Duke University). Patients with suicidal ideations are encouraged not to act on their impulses and to immediately seek help at the closest emergency room.
